The 35-year-old midfielder has only made one appearance in the Championship under boss Nathan Jones, a five-minute cameo off the bench.

He is reportedly being considered for a new role at Manchester United dealing with recruitment.

Fletcher spent two-and-a-half years at The Hawthorns, where he was made skipper by Tony Pulis.

He left in the summer of 2017 after feeling under-appreciated and signed for the Potters instead.

The five-times Premier League winner spent 12 years at United, and could reportedly return to the club in a different role.

However, he has not retired from playing yet.

Fletcher is also contemplating a future in coaching, having completed his Uefa B licence while unable to play due to ulcerative colitis.

He has also developed a media career over the past few years, becoming a pundit for Scottish national football in particular.

After he left the Baggies, Fletcher said: “I just felt like I wasn’t getting appreciated as much as I felt (I should have been) from different areas.

“And I just felt like something new as well.”

Fellow veteran Scottish midfielder Charlie Adam is also leaving Stoke at the end of the season.

The Potters were pre-season favourites for the Championship title but will finish no higher than 16th this season.
