Unbeaten in three games and it seems that we could be turning the corner. Not only have results improved in recent weeks, but so have our performances.

A draw at Goodison Park followed on from our much-needed victory against Brighton.

We started with a great tempo and went ahead through Jay Rodriguez, only for Oumar Niasse to get an undeserved equaliser midway through the second half. It was a very good performance, only soured by the terrible injury to James McCarthy.

However, what has really struck me in the last few games has been our attacking play.

Under Pulis’s leadership we would have defended our 2-0 lead against Brighton and simply hung on for a point against Everton.

With Alan Pardew at the helm, all of that has changed. We continued to strive forward against Brighton and despite being pegged back against the Toffees, there was only one team pushing to win the game on Saturday.

Even though results may not have improved as quickly as we would have liked it’s clear to see from a tactical aspect things are beginning to look a lot different under Pardew which can only be a positive for the rest of the season.

Last time round I said we looked like a team destined for the drop. Well, I was wrong.

Even though we still sit 19th in the table, three points from safety, Pardew and the players have shown enough ability and fight in the last two matches to suggest we have what it takes to pull ourselves clear and remain in the Premier League for a ninth consecutive season.

The only thing that concerns me now is the Jonny Evans situation.

Do we sell now and bring in attacking reinforcements but lose our most influential player? Or keep hold but not strengthen in attack and lose him for peanuts if we don’t manage to remain in the division?

It’s tough but for me it’s got to be the latter. Evans has been back to his very best in the last two games and is looking indispensable in our fight to avoid the drop.

I think also, with the upturn in form of Rondon, Rodriguez and Krychowiak – and with Chadli and Morrison set to return in February – not bringing in more attacking reinforcements is definitely the better approach to take than losing our club captain and best player.

When Evans plays well the team plays well and for that reason alone I hope we hold on to him.

Another point, a better performance and loads more ability was on show at Goodison Park. Yet still we struggle to score goals.

Rondon’s workmanlike performance proved beyond any doubt he has ability but now the world knows we are crying out for a Defoe or Shane Long-type player to run off him.

The near misses and numerous chances we created show we are moving forward and Everton would have been glad of the point, such was the improvement of Albion.

Pardew has reset the sat-nav and we go forward at pace now, it’s just the end result that is lacking.

The window is closing soon and still no goal poacher seems Hawthorns-bound, which is my worry.

Our recent form against Liverpool, United and our wins recently show we are not playing relegation football. Guochuan Lai needs to open his wallet regardless of whether Evans leaves or not.
