The 24-year-old joined Walsall as a youngster and rose through the ranks before making his professional debut in 2014.

He is part of a core group of the squad that regularly volunteers with the local community and after his latest zoom session with the club’s under-12s this week, Kinsella insists it is an essential part of his job.

He said: “It’s always nice. I’ve been a young lad coming through the system and doing stuff like that with the pros when I was a kid, it was something nice to do.

“Every time Adam (Davy, community manager) gets in touch with me to do stuff like that, I’m always keen to do it. It was a really enjoyable hour with the lads. You get questions like ‘do you drive a Ferrari’ – it was a good laugh.

“We’re in a position as footballers to try and give back to the community and it’s a pleasure to do. A lot of the lads in the changing room are the same, they always like to get involved in stuff like that.”

Meanwhile, Kinsella believes the club’s new signings have shown ‘positive signs’ in training.

Max Melbourne scored on his debut this week, while Tyreik Wright has two assists in as many games.

Frank Vincent and Derick Osei Yaw have both made brief substitute appearances, while Jayden Reid is waiting for his first chance.

“The lads that have been here and moved on have been brilliant and deserved their moves,” Kinsella added. “The new lads that have come in, that I’ve seen of them so far in training, have been really good and shown positive signs.

“You saw Max on Tuesday, he’s settled in brilliantly and got his goal. I thought he played really well. Hopefully we can continue that with the new lads and see what they’re about.

Manager Darrell Clarke added: “It’s early days, we’ve had one game in three weeks.

“We’ve not been able to have that much of a look at the new lads. Tyreik has come in and done OK, Vincent has come on in a couple of games, Max has had a good debut.

“It’s very early to assess them. They’re young development players that we’ve brought in, they’re not seasoned pros.

“We’ll see how they develop but the early impressions are good. Time will tell.”
