Forest Green 1-2 Walsall - Player ratings

Liam Keen rates the Walsall players after a 2-1 win over Forest Green Rovers.

Published

LIAM ROBERTS

It was a very solid performance from Roberts, who in reality didn’t have many difficult saves to make. He did have one, however, from Aaron Collins and it was superbly done. 8

SHAY FACEY

As the full-back gets himself back to full fitness, this was a good test for Facey against some good attacking talent. He held his own well and was defensively sound, although didn’t offer as much going forward. 7

DAN SCARR

Scarr was back to his best, which had been missing in recent results. He won everything in the air and handled Josh March very well and with relative ease. However, the team did concede from another set piece. 8

MAT SADLER

Alongside Scarr, Sadler was also extremely effective in the air and won most of his battles. Having only one striker to deal with did make his life easier and he looked comfortable throughout the afternoon. 8

CAMERON PRING

Pring put in potentially his best Saddlers performance. Odin Bailey was anonymous throughout the game, largely because of Pring’s exceptional defending. Going forward, he possesses talent that few defenders have. 9

RORY HOLDEN

It wasn’t Holden’s day as he proved again he’s far better centrally rather than out wide. He did have a good game last week in that position, but he failed to keep that momentum and regularly gave the ball away. 5

NATHAN SHERON

Walsall fans haven’t quite taken to Sheron since his arrival in January, but he’s improving. He won his fair share of battles against Forest Green, however he still needs to improve his passing. 6

STUART SINCLAIR

Walsall have missed Sinclair and his expert ball-winning skills. In his first start since Boxing Day, it was a solid 90 minutes for the midfielder that will put him in good stead following his latest injury setback. 7

LIAM KINSELLA

Playing out of position on both wings, Kinsella played his part in a positive result. He regularly played more narrow to allow Pring to overlap. He also did well to win the penalty in the second half. 8

JOSH GORDON

Gordon had the bit between his teeth early on and was prepared to get in Rovers’ faces. He worked as hard as he always does and had some good link-up play, while also proving why he’s the penalty taker at the club. 8

CAOLAN LAVERY

At times it wasn’t falling for Lavery but the striker persevered throughout. His link-up play with Gordon was effective too. However, he was a bit sloppy with some counter-attacks late on in the game. 7

SUBS: McDonald (for Holden 53) 7, Adebayo (for Gordon 73) 5. Not used: Rose, Norman, Jules, Guthrie, Nolan.
