Promotion is still the target for Stafford Rangers

Stafford Rangers assistant boss Nick Amos insists they are still targeting promotion despite a shaky spell.

The Marston Road outfit are 14th in the Evo-Stik Premier after nine games, having won three, drawn two and lost four.

They lost 1-0 at Warrington Town on Tuesday night, after a 4-0 drubbing at the hands of Witton Albion on Saturday.

“We had a good start to the season but results have not been as we would have liked recently,” said Amos.

“The good thing for us, though, is that nobody has pulled away yet.

“Everybody has been beating everybody, really and although we are 14th, we are only seven points off the top – and things can change quickly.

“We are aiming to be up there and challenging, and we believe we have the quality to do that.”

Despite failing to pick up any points at Warrington on Tuesday, Amos was pleased with the performance.

“We needed a reaction after a dismal performance and result against Witton,” he said.

“And we got the reaction. We dominated the game and had a lot of possession but did not trouble their keeper enough in the end. Overall, there were positives to take out of the game.”

He added: “It is just individual mistakes that are costing us at the moment.

“We haven’t quite had the rub of the green recently but in football you create your own luck through hard work.”
