The 25-year-old has penned a short-term deal with the Aggborough outfit after training with the club over the last few weeks.

He has also played for Doncaster Rovers, Mansfield and American side Orange County, and ended last season at Harriers’ National League North rivals Alfreton Town.

“When he came to the fore, James was somebody I wanted to try and get in,” said boss Neil MacFarlane

“We’ve done that, and we’re absolutely delighted.

“Even this early, his attitude has been infectious and he’s been a great boy around the place.

“He has married into the team spirit and attitude that this group has already and I think he’ll bring a lot to us this season.”

Baxendale made more than 100 appearances for Walsall between 2012 and 2016. A purple patch saw him awarded a three-year contract in the 2013/14 campaign, but his form tailed off before leaving for Mansfield.
