Fan verdict after Aston Villa beat Wolves 4-1

Wow! Make no mistake about it Villa fans, that was magnificent.

I always thought we were good enough to win if we played to our potential and boy did we turn up.

When we lost to Wolves earlier in the season, we were rubbish. However, we had a lot of injuries at the time and we paid the price for a lacklustre display.

On Saturday evening there was nowhere to hide and we had no excuses before kick-off. Everyone was fit and we had the 11 that most fans wanted to see starting, so it was over to the players to do the business and, boy, did they deliver.

Oh, and let’s not forget Wolves were also at full strength with the return of Neves in the middle.

The game started just as we would have wanted, we were on the front foot from the first whistle and deservedly took the lead with a scrambled effort from the ever-reliable Albert Adomah.

After that, we went into our shell and Wolves had their best spell and deservedly equalised through a well-worked move down the right.

I think the whole crowd and the team thought ‘Oh no!’ at that point, but it was then our talisman Jack Grealish who took control of the game – a player for me who is one of the stand-out talents in the division.

I truly believe the 10 minutes before half-time gave the lads the confidence to come out and simply blow the league leaders away in the second half.

A friend walked past me just as the players were coming out and asked ‘Would you take a point?’ and I said ‘I want to be greedy and take all three’.

Deep down, I probably wasn’t as confident as I sounded, but I honestly didn’t see anything in the Wolves team that worried me.

Once we hit the front again through another unsung hero in James Chester (oh how the Albion must rue selling him now), we never looked back and the evening just got better and better when Adomah broke down the left and whipped the ball in for Grabban to score his fourth in the last four games.

We went into dreamland, but it wasn’t anything we didn’t deserve.

Everywhere I looked there were smiling faces and all I could hear in my head was the sound of all the Wolves fans that I’d heard or read saying how easy it was going to be for them.

And the cherry on the icing on the cake was the iceman coming off the bench to cut through and smash in a fourth, it was unbelievable! It just topped off a magnificent day.

I will also say I think Wolves are a good side, but some of the rubbish I’ve heard and disrespect shown to my club this season and in the run-up to this game had disappointed me tremendously.

There’s a long way to go yet. It’s wolf hunting season and the lions are on the prowl, and we all know there’s only one winner there. UTV.
