Aston Villa are hopeful of having midfield general Mile Jedinak back in their ranks for the big Molineux derby on Saturday.

While it may be too soon for the Australian international to start against Wolves in the televised clash, he may been ready for a place on the bench.

The former Crystal Palace man underwent an operation in the summer for a persistent groin problem which affected an otherwise impressive first season in claret and blue last term.

However, Jedinak stayed in England during the international break, sitting out Australia’s play-off victory over Syria yesterday.

Conor Hourihane and Glenn Whelan have occupied the central midfield berths for the majority of the season but Villa boss Steve Bruce is a big admirer of Jedinak and is keen to have him back in the side.

The 33-year-old has played just 45 minutes of first-team football for Villa so far this season when he was brought into the side in place of Glenn Whelan for the 0-0 draw against Middlesbrough. He was replaced by Albert Adomah when his groin problem flared up again.
