Salmon, from Kingswinford, was due to join meet up with the Lionesses at St George’s Park after being called up ahead of next week’s friendly with Northern Ireland.

The 20-year-old striker, who has been capped by England up to under-19 level, caught the eye of interim boss Hege Riise thanks to her sensational form for Bristol City in the Women’s Super League.

Salmon began her journey aged six with Gornal Colts, where she played alongside boys in the Stourbridge & District Youth League and was coached by her dad, Owen. Mum Sarah is also club secretary.

She later joined Villa’s academy and spent a season at Manchester United before moving to Bristol, where she has scored nine goals in all competitions this season.

Owen said: “We are all so proud of her. Ebony’s long-term goal has always been to represent her country.

“Just to get there. We weren’t expecting it. To have the call-up now at 20 years of age. It is unreal. Even now a few days on we can’t quite compute it properly.”
