With all of professional European sport on an indefinite hiatus, athletes from around the continent have been finding novel ways to keep themselves fit and entertained during the forced postponement.

1. Toby Alderweireld

Spurs captain surprised NHS worker

Toby Alderweireld surprised a Tottenham-supporting NHS worker over video call and paid tribute to healthcare heroes in the battle against coronavirus.

The Belgian centre back was recently touched by a viral clip which showed Spurs fan Tayla Porter being given a rapturous response from her neighbours before heading out for a shift.

The club captain stunned Tayla with a surprise conversation - with the paramedic later revealing that the defender's actions would provide those on the frontline with a welcome boost.

Tayla was visibly moved to tears and thanked everyone for all the kindness she had been shown.

2. Roberto Carlos

Roberto Carlos take 2

Roberto Carlos' famous free-kick vs France in Le Tournoi is still regarded by many as the greatest goal ever scored.

And the Brazilian legend has put the boots back on again during lockdown in an attempt to re-create that magical moment.

The 46-year-old sets off with intent in his back garden with a family member ramping up the hostile atmosphere with some background jeering.

The bend on the ball still resembles a banana, but unfortunately for Carlos, the ball doesn't quite come back enough and just misses the target.

3. Marshall Leonard

Former New England Revolution defender Marshall Leonard has traded in his MLS uniform for one of an attending physician in a New York City-area hospital.

Leonard's newest job -- which will be in a region that has been hit extremely hard by the coronavirus pandemic -- was revealed by his brother on social media.

Leonard attended medical school and also did his ER residency at Stony Book University on Long Island, had a message for athletes from all sports during these uncertain times.

"I know it’s completely awkward, but use this time just to keep yourself in whatever shape possible, because when this is done, I’m telling you right now, we need you," said the hero.

4. Aadil Bedi

Golf is an expensive sport, but this countrywide lockdown has taught India's 19-year-old budding golfer Aadil Bedi how to make it look like any other sport.

Bedi, who is obsessed with the game, is shown practising his swing at the backyard of his accommodation —- using mattresses, chairs and whatever he can get his hands on.

He has placed a few old mattresses on the wall with the support of a table and a few chairs. The mattresses have been tied with towels. And Bedi stands behind the set-up to launch his swing with a laptop tracking his every move.

The moment the ball hits the mattress, the budding golfer gets instant analysis of his shot, including its flight, drop and force of swing.
