A try from prop Billy Moss was scant reward for Stourbridge Saxons as they paid the price for squandering chances to claim a rare win at Tynedale.

The points were shared in the early stages, Jamie Hearn's 29th minute penalty being cancelled out soon after by Matthew Outson.

Stourbridge had seen plenty of the ball in the opening ten minutes, twice kicking penalties to the corner only to fail to take advantage from the line-out.

But it was the home side who looked the more dangerous with the ball in hand, winger Peter Cole twice gong close while opposite wing Alan Rogers also had a glorious opportunity only to knock just short of the line.

It looked as tough it would be all-square at the break until Tynedale full-back Sep Visser spotted a gap in the Saxons defences and glided through to score an unconverted try.

Outson added a penalty three minutes into the second period before Stourbridge hit back through Moss' try, the front row powering his way over the line after a quickly taken penalty had been worked out to the left wing.

Trailing 11-8, it looked as though the score could lift the visitors but it wasn't to be and Visser sliced through again on 54 minutes, Outson's conversion handing the home side a ten-point cushion.

Five minutes later and the full-back would have completed his hat-trick had he not knocked on as Tynedale continued to dominate.

It looked like being a straightforward victory for the home side but yellow cards for Rogers and replacement Grant Rastall in the final 20 minutes saw them play out the final 20 minutes with just 14 men.

Indeed, referee Cammie Rudkin was a busy man having already shown cards to Visser and Stourbridge's Cameron Brown in the first period.

But the Saxons could not make their extra man count and had to settle for a brace of Hearn penalties. In contrast, Rogers returned to the fray to run in a third Tynedale score in the closing stages, the home side running out 23-14 winners.
