Albion star Graham Dorrans believes the club's promotion back to the Premier League has erased the hurt of last season's relegation.

The Scot struck his 17th goal of the season with a stunning free-kick at the Keepmoat Stadium.

And Dorrans believes promotion has healed the wounds of last summer's drop from the top flight.

He said: "It's fantastic. Everyone wants to play in the Premier League and to erase the memory of last year, so there is no better way to do it than to go straight back up.

"It's great for the whole team. You could see what it meant to the fans and the club as a whole, and all the players were buzzing in the changing room.

"Everybody wanted to get back up to erase the memory of last season and thankfully we've done that at the first attempt.

"The season on the whole has been great for myself, but I wouldn't have come down here if I wasn't confident I could play at this level.

"I always knew I that if I bided my time the second season would be massive for and that's what happened."

Dorrans opened the scoring on the half-hour with a free-kick that bent over the Doncaster wall and flew past home goalkeeper Neil Sullivan.

The former Livingston player was thrilled with the goal, but admitted that Albion had made hard work of sealing the win.

He said: "I've managed to get a few of those goals this season. Myself and Chris Brunt were standing over the free kick and he told me to have a go at the goalkeeper's side. He said that because the goalkeeper wouldn't be expecting it.

"Thankfully that's what happened and it went in. But they made it tough for us. We knew what sort of game it was going to be.

"They came to our place and passed the ball well and they did the same on Saturday, which didn't surprise us. But we knew if we passed the ball we would create chances and score goals.

"With them getting their late goal it was a bit nervous in the end but we held on and got the three points we needed. We knew it would be tough but we know we create a lot of chances.

"We have scored in every game since the turn of the year so we knew we would create chances and score goal."

Albion's win means they can now celebrate promotion when they entertain Middlesbrough at the Hawthorns on Saturday.

But Dorrans insists the players will still have one eye on overhauling leaders Newcastle to claim the Championship title.

He said: "Saturday will be a good day, but we will keep going until it's mathematically impossible for us to catch Newcastle."
