From street parties to big screens and bumper wedding festivals - the impending nuptials of Prince William and Kate Middleton mean plenty of events planned across the West Midlands.

St Andrew's Church in Shifnal, near Wolverhampton, today announced it is staging a Right Royal Celebration by organising a display of wedding dresses, flowers and royal memorabilia.

There will also be a street party held throughout the festival.

The celebration to mark the Royal Wedding begins on April 27 and runs until May 2.

On April 27 there will be exhibitions on show during the afternoon and an evening service of Memories and Thanksgiving remembering loved ones. The party continues on April 28 and there will be a Renewal of Marriage Vows service on that evening where couples can tie the knot once more.

The festival takes a break on April 29 for the big wedding, and continues on April 30, Sunday and May 2.

Royal memorabilia marking previous weddings and other big events will also be on show throughout the wedding extravaganza.

Lady-in-waiting to Princess Alexandra, Meriel Afia who lives near Shifnal, and Shirley Tart, royal correspondent for the Express & Star's sister paper the Shropshire Star, who has been at all the royal weddings and all other major occasions since 1973, will be staging their own special exhibitions.

Rev Chris Thorpe, from St Andrew's Church, said today: "We wanted to mark the occasion in some way for people to really enjoy and hope it will be interesting and fun."

Entrance to the exhibition and festival is free, although donations will be welcomed by the church.
