Bill Etheridge hit out at Labour and Tory MPs who joined forces to defeat Theresa May in the Commons last night, accusing them of trying to thwart the Brexit process.

The West MIdlands MEP said the point of the amendment was to 'allow MP's the option of delaying a deal, voting a deal down and creating an unstable atmosphere'.

The Government's defeat now puts the UK's departure date from the EU into question, he added, and also 'gives confidence to the undemocratic House of Lords to make further changes'.

Mr Etheridge said: “The people who voted to amend the Brexit bill have betrayed their country. I believe they are traitors to the British people and to democracy.

"In years gone by they would have been put in the Tower of London, but now all we can do is through our own means show them that they will be removed from office and power.

"We will target them when the elections come, including those in the West Midlands. They need to understand they are now marked as traitors to our country."
