Bentley formerly owned by Prince Charles to go under the hammer

The 1994 Turbo RL came with special alterations by order of the royal household and has had two owners since it was in the Prince of Wales’ possession

A Bentley Turbo RL formerly owned by HRH Prince of Wales is going on sale at the upcoming H&H Classics Auction.

The 1994 model has been given an estimate of £12,000 to £14,000 and comes with a full service history. A reserve has been set at £6,000.

The long wheelbase version of the luxury model was specially modified for use by Prince Charles and comes with Brewster Green paintwork alongside mushroom-coloured leather trim.

Alterations made to the model included lowered rear seat cushions, a fixed sunroof, rear reading lights and a ‘supply and fit blue lamp’.

Supplied as new to the Prince of Wales, the vehicle was registered on 31 December 1994 and since leaving the possession of the royal household has had two owners.

L881 DNP is supplied with a full maintenance history, original handbooks and service books and an MOT valid until July 2019. It was last serviced in June this year. Fitted with a 6.75-litre V8 turbo petrol engine, the model has more than 141,000 miles on the clock.

Another vehicle of interest at the auction is a 1960 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II formerly owned by actress and singer Diana Dors – which comes with an estimate of £30,000 to £35,000.

The white example comes with a red leather interior and a 6.2-litre V8 engine, which was fitted as a replacement for the original 4.9-litre six-cylinder unit.

Considered a sex symbol during the late 1950s and early ‘60s, Dors was known for her association with Rolls-Royce, as the British brand had leased her one of its cars when she was only 20 – leading to a string of newspaper headlines in 1952.

Only 2,717 Cloud IIs were built between 1959 and 1962, and this example is supplied with details of past restoration work, MOT certification and all the relevant paperwork.

James McWilliam, H&H Classics Sales specialist, said: “Both of these cars come trailing interest and intrigue. One can only wonder who sat on these seats beside the famous owners, where they went and what the conversations might have been?

“Prince Charles and Princess Diana married in July 1981, separated in 1992, and divorced in 1996. So this Bentley would have been owned by Prince Charles during the time that his life was moving into a new phase, post Diana.”

Both vehicles are part of the H&H Classics Auction at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford, Oxfordshire, on October 17.
