M6 crash involving three lorries near Walsall leads to lengthy queues

A crash on the M6 in Walsall involving three lorries has resulted in congestion and a several miles of queues.

National Highways West Midlands said emergency crews were called to the incident involving a trio of HGVs on the northbound carriageway between junction 10 at Walsall and junction 10a for the the M54 this morning. Two lanes, closing two lanes for several hours..

In a tweet the agency said: "Lanes 1 and 2 are closed on the #M6 northbound between J10 (#Walsall) & J10A (#M54) due to a multi-vehicle collision.

"Emergency services are on scene & Traffic Officers are en route. There are 4 miles of congestion on approach so please allow extra travel time if in the area."

National Highways has also said there is fluid underneath that needs to be recovered.

By 1pm the agency reported that the vehicles had been recovered but work was still required to clean the spillage, and half an hour later it said all lanes were reopened and queues, which at their peak reached eight miles, should start to clear.

Fire crews were also called to the scene.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: "We received a call at 10.50am on Monday 3 April, alerting us to a collision involving three HGVs on the M6 northbound, between junctions 10 and 11. A fire engine from Walsall responded.

"A small amount of engine coolant had spilled onto one lane and the hard shoulder as a result of the collision.

"Firefighters left the scene at 11.22am after assisting police and highways colleagues, who remained to manage the recovery and clean-up operation."
