Woman and dogs rescued after Cannock Chase cliff fall

A woman and her two dogs had to helped after falling down a 82ft-high bank in Cannock Chase

Crews headed to the Staffordshire beauty spot shortly after 8pm on Bank Holiday Monday.

The firefighters from Stafford, Rugeley and Tamworth were also assisted at the rescue with the rope rescue from Stafford fire station.

The woman managed to walk out, but the firefighters rescued both dogs successfully as darkness fell.

West Midlands Ambulance Service treated the woman at the scene.

The first dog was rescued by the crews at around 9.20pm, while the second dog was brought to safety by 9.50pm.

A firefighters was later pictured on Twitter with one of the rescued dogs.

Firefighters had left Cannock Chase by 10.50pm.

Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service warned visitors to Cannock Chase to be careful of "hidden step drops".

A spokesman for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "We were called 8.06pm on Monday to Cannock Chase, crews from Stafford, Rugeley and Tamworth as well as the rope rescue from Stafford attended.

"The casualty fell from a 25 metre cliff but walked out, while rope recue was used to descend and rescue the dogs.

"Both dogs were successfully rescued and the crews left the scene at 10.50pm."

Sharing the dramatic rescue on Twitter, Staffordshire Fire Service added: "It’s very warm and dark and crews are working hard to carry out the rescues.

"All in a days work. Please be careful on Cannock Chase there are some hidden step drops."
