Property group Wain Estates wants to build 175 new homes off Wilderness Lane, between Q3 Academy and Aston University’s sports pitches on Birmingham Road.

A statement on behalf of the company read: “Wain Estates is preparing a residential proposal for land north of Wilderness Lane, Great Barr, and intends to submit an outline planning application for around 175 new homes and open space to Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council.

“The new homes will address the community’s housing shortage and offer 40 per cent affordable homes. The plans also include a new accessible countryside park, preserving Great Barr’s natural surroundings between settlements.”

Initial designs show the new homes would be built near Park House Road and Birmingham Road with potential access to the estate along Wilderness Lane. A new accessible countryside park would also be developed which would include a children’s play area.

A design statement added: “The proposals will preserve a green buffer between surrounding settlements and deliver a new informal recreation facility for residents of the scheme and the local community, as well as providing a net biodiversity gain.

“This is a well-located, sustainable site that will provide new homes and social benefits including much needed affordable housing and a new countryside park for the local community.
