Man taken to hospital after Oldbury bungalow fire

A man was taken to hospital after a blaze at a bungalow in Oldbury.

The fire happened in Ombersley Close at about 2.30am today.

A spokesman for West Midlands Fire Service said: "At 2.37am this morning we were called to Ombersley Close in Oldbury.

"We sent three fire engines, 15 firefighters, the first crew was there in four minutes.

"The first message says this involves a small fire in the front room of a terraced bungalow.

"One man had left the property before we arrived, everybody was accounted for. He was given first aid by firefighters.

"Crews used one hose reel jet, the fire is believed to have been linked to smoking materials.

"The man is believed to be in his 60s."

Claire Brown, spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "Called at 2.37am by the fire service to reports of a property fire in Ombersley Close, Oldbury.

"An ambulance and paramedic officer attended. One man was given treatment on scene for minor smoke inhalation before being taken to hospital for further checks."
