Council bosses are keen to improve the level of support available for victims of abuse to help tackle what is a growing issue in the borough.

There were a total of 6,759 domestic abuse incidents in Sandwell during 2016/17, up 220 on the previous year.

A range of services are already available but Sandwell Council is keen to provide greater accommodation, so more victims can be supported - as well as reaching those who are deemed to be at risk.

The authority is set to hold talks with the current service provider as well as other organisation about expanding the level of delivery.

A council report said 'ongoing demand' for its services indicated 'the need for greater investment' in the area.

Sandwell Council's deputy leader and communities boss Councillor Syeda Khatun said: "Domestic violence often goes unreported and we should do everything we can to support victims.

"What we are putting forward is very important. It's vital we offer support to try and prevent it."
