Kidderminster building collapses sparking evacuation and road closure

A building has collapsed in Kidderminster town centre leading to part of a road being cordoned off for safety.

Part of the three-storey building in Radford Avenue, in the Horsefair area, collapsed at around 9.30pm on Wednesday.

A section of the road around The Old Post Office building was cordoned off at the junction with Blackwell Street in the aftermath.

Bricks and debris came away from the rear of the building which is believed to empty.

People in neighbouring buildings had to be evacuated by emergency services. No people were injured.

Crews from Hereford and Worcester Fire Service attended the scene alongside officers from West Mercia Police.

A West Mercia Police spokesman said: "Officers from West Mercia Police provided scene guard and traffic management."

A fire service spokeswoman said: "All people were accounted for. Adjourning properties had to be evacuated."
