Staff and visitors who do not use the designated spaces at Walsall Manor Hospital will be hit with £30 fines as part of a crackdown on illegal parking.

The new fine system, complete with security guards, is being enforced by Walsall Hospitals NHS Trust to tackle drivers who leave their vehicles in unauthorised areas.

The tough approach will come into force next month and aims to ensure cars parked on site are not causing an obstruction or taking up spaces earmarked for disabled visitors.

Under the new Red Route System an amnesty will be implemented for the first four weeks to allow people to get used to the new restrictions.

However, anyone abusing the system will initially receive a written notice pointing out their poor parking.Sarah Smith, director of development for Walsall Hospitals NHS Trust, said: "The civil penalty car parking system will apply on all roads with red line marking, and misuse of disabled spaces.

"Therefore any person - be it staff or visitor - that parks and leaves their vehicle on double red lines or on a disabled space without the appropriate eligibility badge will be issued with a civil penalty notice."
