The need for food banks is a 'big problem' in the Black County, the Bishop of Dudley has said as he backed the E&S Feed a Family This Christmas appeal.

Rev Graham Usher stopped off at the E&S Stourbridge office to donate boxes of food and toiletries that he collected himself.

He is the latest well-known face to support the campaign, which aims to benefit families across the Black Country and Staffordshire.

So far, more than 4,000 items of food, toiletries and clothing have been passed on to food banks around the region.

Donations include Christmas selection boxes, socks, shower gel and other food items – all generously given by groups and members of the public.

Rev Usher said: "Food banks and people not being able to afford some of the very basics in life is a big problem.

"The Feed a Family appeal is one that goes right to the heart of loving – we're all neighbours and should come together at Christmas time.

"Food banks are still something that are here in our society as people are so stretched financially.

"We have to all come together and look at helping to feed people during this important time."

The Feed a Family appeal is running until Wednesday, so there is still a little more time to search those cupboards and help those in need in the Black Country and Staffordshire.

Groups that will benefit include The Well (The home of Wolverhampton Food Bank), the Good Shepherd Ministry based in Wolverhampton, The Black Country Food Bank, which has centres across Dudley, Sandwell and Walsall, Smethwick Food Bank, Walsall North Food Bank and Cannock and District Food Bank.

Donations can be left at the Express & Star offices in Queen Street, Wolverhampton; Queen Square, Cannock and Market Street, Stourbridge.

Those wanting to donate can also take their bags of festive joy to Waitrose, Penn Road, Wolverhampton; The Co-operative Food, Wood Lane/Bakers Way, Codsall, and The Co-op, High Holborn, Sedgley.
