Man arrested following suspected arson attacks in Wolverhampton

A man was arrested on suspicion of a series of fires being started across Wolverhampton.

Officers from West Midlands Police arrested a 41-year-old man following the incidents, which saw a pub on Church Street in Bilston suffer damage to the front of the building at 4am on Saturday, then seven vehicles set alight on Shale Street.

The man was detained on suspicion of arson and the force said he was due to be questioned.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: "We've arrested a man in connection with a series of fires following swift work by officers in Wolverhampton this morning.

"We were alerted to a suspected arson attack on a pub in Church Street in Bilston, which caused damage to the front of the building at just before 4am.

"Shortly afterwards, seven vehicles caught fire in nearby Shale Street.

"Officers were quickly on the scene and detained a 41-year-old man in the area on suspicion of arson. 

"He will questioned in due course."
