Cadent Gas is carrying out the work opposite the Merry Hill pub after a reported leak. Barriers have been set up in the road around a mound of dirt.

An emergency road closure was granted on Wednesday evening (November 4).

Signs at the junction with Coalway Road at the western end and near Trysull Gardens in the east warn ‘no through road’ and ‘road ahead closed’ with ‘access to frontages only’, but some vehicles have been navigating around the barriers.

Cadent’s notice to the public said: “Cadent are carrying out emergency gas repair works. These repairs can take time to resolve, but this is to ensure that we continue to provide the safest and most reliable service to our customers.”

The current road closure order runs until midnight on November 10.
