Man charged over arson attack on house with family inside

A suspected arsonist has been charged after a house was set on fire with and woman and children inside on Easter Monday.

David White is accused of breaking into the house in Farren Road, Northfield, Birmingham, and setting fire to upholstery in the lounge before fleeing the scene.

A woman and two children managed to escape the property unhurt before flames gutted large parts of the building on April 13.

White, from Oaklands in Northfield, was arrested from an address in Rubery on Thursday and charged with arson with intent to endanger life.

The 34-year-old has also been charged with battery assault charges against a woman and a child and one count of aggravated vehicle taking.

He was due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court on Saturday.

A 41-year-old man arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender has been released under investigation.
