Albion assistant manager Mark Venus and first team coach Peter Grant will join the 45-year-old at Celtic Park, along with former Hoops midfielder Neil Lennon.

The news ends Mowbray's three year stint at The Hawthorns - a period that included a Championship title and an FA Cup semi-final appearance, along with the disappointments of the 2007 play-off final defeat to Derby and relegation from the Premier League last season.

A Celtic statement released on Tuesday afternoon said: "Celtic Football Club is delighted today to confirm that Tony Mowbray has been appointed the new Celtic manager.

"Tony will be joined at Celtic by Mark Venus, Peter Grant and Neil Lennon in the new Celtic management team.

"This is fantastic news for the club and we look forward to officially unveiling Tony as the new Celtic manager at a news conference at Celtic Park tomorrow (Wednesday)."

The move was widely expected after Albion announced a £2m compensation deal had been agreed with Celtic on Saturday.

Albion said it would receive further payments under the deal for the departures of Venus and Grant.

Mowbray, who made 78 SPL appearances for Celtic between 1991-95, winning the Scottish Cup in 1995, replaces Gordon Strachan as Celtic manager.

Lennon, who was part of Strachan's coaching team, was promised a role at Parkhead for next season by Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell.

There has been speculation that Lennon would take over as reserve team coach from Willie McStay, but his job will become clearer at tomorrow's press conference.

Mowbray's first job will be to assess his squad ahead of the first of possibly two tricky Champions League qualifiers at the end of July.

With the Clydesdale Bank Premier League fixtures being announced tomorrow, Mowbray will discover who will be his first opponents in the league campaign.

Mowbray will need no introduction to Hoops midfielder Scott Brown, midfielder Gary Caldwell and striker Chris Killen, all of whom were under his charge when he was Hibernian boss.
