Tennis star Tim Henman has joined forces with pop queen Alesha Dixon to encourage families to dust off their racquets and hit the tennis courts this summer.

Alesha will be challenging people queueing to get into this year's Wimbledon tournament later this month to play against her on a mini-grass court.

And the pair were at the David Lloyd centre in Great Barr yesterday to showcase the Robinson-sponsored event.

Henman, 34, who retired in 2007, said: "On the first morning we are going to be picking people out of the queue and they will get a chance to play against Alesha."

Henman said the Strictly Come Dancing winner was showing good promise.

"She's good. She says she's never played before and I find that slightly hard to believe. The one thing that stands out is her athletic ability."

Alesha, aged 30, who planned to be a PE teacher before her pop career took off, said: "When they asked me to get involved I just thought it was just a fantastic way to learn a new skill and to encourage people to play tennis and get in shape for summer.

"The opportunity is just something I couldn't say no to," said the singer, who is working hard on perfecting her serve.
