Plans unveiled for 600 new homes in Streetly as public consultation launched

The development could include up to 600 homes, with 40 per cent designated as affordable housing

Plans for up to 600 new homes in Streetly have been unveiled, with residents being invited to have their say on the proposals.

Housebuilder Taylor Wimpey has launched a public consultation on plans for a new neighbourhood on land north of Little Hardwick Road and west of Chester Road.

The development could include up to 600 homes, with 40 per cent designated as affordable housing, alongside extensive public open spaces and land set aside for a potential healthcare or community facility.

The site has been identified for housing in the emerging Walsall Borough Local Plan, although the proposals remain at an early stage.

Under the plans, the development would include a mixture of homes for private sale, social rent and shared ownership, with the latter aimed at helping first-time buyers onto the property ladder.

Taylor Wimpey says nearly half of the site would be dedicated to open space, including public parkland, play areas, allotments and areas designed to encourage wildlife.

The proposals also include new walking and cycling routes, significant tree planting and parking facilities associated with the allotments.

All homes would be designed to be low carbon, incorporating air source heat pumps, solar panels, electric vehicle charging points and high standards of insulation.

The developer has also indicated that the scheme would generate financial contributions towards local infrastructure.

Zoe Mallett, strategic land regional director at Taylor Wimpey, said: "We are very pleased to present our early-stage proposals for a new neighbourhood in Streetly, providing high-quality new homes in a sensitively designed, landscape-led development.

"With nearly half of the site area being proposed as open space, our vision for the development is to provide extensive public parkland, biodiversity areas, allotments and a range of outdoor recreational facilities alongside much-needed new homes."

Residents will have the opportunity to view the proposals and speak to members of the project team at a public drop-in event at Veseyans Rugby Club, Little Hardwick Road, on Thursday, November 12, between 2pm and 6.30pm.

Ms Mallett added: "While the principle of development at the site has been subject to previous consultation during the Local Plan process, we are committed to proactive engagement with the local community to help shape our emerging plans.

"Local feedback has an important role to play in ensuring that our proposals are aligned as closely as possible with local priorities.

"We hope that members of the community will take the opportunity to visit our consultation website or come along to our drop-in event at Veseyans Rugby Club."

The land is listed as site HO3011 in the publication draft of the new Walsall Borough Local Plan.

An Environmental Impact Assessment screening request has previously been submitted to Walsall Council to establish whether a full assessment would be required as part of a future planning application.

Taylor Wimpey says all feedback received during the consultation will be considered before an outline planning application is submitted to the council, which is expected towards the end of 2026.

Residents can view the proposals and submit their comments at www.twstreetly.co.uk until midnight on Friday, November 20.
