Aircraft firm bringing new jobs
A new aerospace engineering centre in Birmingham will mean up to 100 new hi-tech jobs, it was revealed today.
The Airbus-funded Midlands Engineering Centre will carry out research and design for landing gear and fuel systems.
Industry and Regions Minister Margaret Hodge, who unveiled the centre near Birmingham Airport today, said it has been funded by £30 million from the aircraft manufacturer and will be run by the Morson Group on its behalf.
Mrs Hodge said: "The centre provides a great boost for the aerospace industry and the wider engineering sector in the Midlands area.
"Airbus is already a big contributor to the UK economy through the creation of high-value jobs.
"I am delighted that Airbus's activities are spreading more widely to take advantage of the specialist hi tech skills that have a long tradition within this region."
