Hospital's radio base may go for parking

The future of Kidderminster Hospital Radio is under threat with plans to demolish its base at the town's hospital to make way for six car parking spaces.

The radio station operates from a bungalow in Franchise Street, which was built for the station in 1987 after donations from members of the public.

However, there are now plans to demolish nearby Brook House at Kidderminster Hospital as part of a plan to relocate two doctors' surgeries on the site.

However, staff at the radio station, who are tenants of the Worcester Acute Hospital's NHS Trust, claim at first they were told their bungalow must go because it would be "too close" to Brook House which also faces demolition.

Michael Dimbylow, secretary of the station management team, said: "We do not think the trust has been straight with us.

"First they said the building we are in was too close to Brook House, which is due to be demolished. However, when I queried this it finally came out that they wanted to create six car parking spaces in place of the building."

Director of the hospital trust Jeff Crawshaw denied the radio station was getting a raw deal, saying there had been talks about relocating them but these talks had not been finalised.
