Bizarre motoring contraptions built by TV presenter and inventor Edd China have gone on display at the National Motor Museum.

Kicking off the Wacky Record Breakers exhibition on Sunday, China drove his ‘Bog Standard’ motorised bathroom suite and ‘Casual Loafer’ lounge suite – both of which are road-legal – around the grounds of the museum in Beaulieu, Hampshire.

During the run, Bog Standard was able to reach speeds of 34mph, while Casual Loafer hit 37mph. Wave 105 radio presenter Rick Johnson was China’s co-pilot for the event, providing a running commentary from Bog Standard’s bathtub passenger seat.

The Wacky Record Breakers exhibition also features creations from inventor and YouTube celebrity Colin Furze. One of Furze’s stand-out builds is the world’s fastest fairground dodgem, which was converted into a 100mph rocket ship courtesy of a Honda motorcycle engine and some engineering know-how.

Top Gear’s The Stig piloted the 1960s dodgem during its record-breaking run in March, hitting 100.336mph and setting a world record for the world’s fastest bumper car.

A number of Furze’s other contraptions are also on display, including the world’s fastest pram – which can hit 53mph – and a mobility scooter that can reach 82mph.

Admission to the Wacky Record Breakers exhibition – which runs until August 31 – is included in the price of the museum entrance ticket.
