Plea for Ince ban to be lifted
Trinidad and Tobago are to ask FIFA to lift the ban preventing goalkeeper Clayton Ince playing for Walsall in Saturday's top-of-the-table clash with Wycombe. The T&T Football Federation (TTFF) have performed a U-turn after asking the world governing body to stop the injured Ince playing for his club this week.
The Soca Warriors claim FIFA imposed the ban, preventing Ince from playing in any competitive game from last Saturday until next Monday, because Walsall withdrew him from international duty. But the TTFF now appear to have accepted that the thigh and groin injury that kept Ince out of Walsall's goalless draw at Chester on Friday is genuine.
And they have written to FIFA asking for the suspension to be lifted.
Jack Warner, special advisor to the TTFF, wrote to FIFA on behalf of general secretary Richard Groden.
Warner said: "This was done after Ince's situation with his thigh and groin injuries was reconsidered.
"Mr Groden has asked me to contact FIFA with a request that the ban which was imposed on Clayton Ince be lifted with immediate effect. We never had intention to punish Ince or anyone, but the FIFA regulations are there."
Whether the removal of the ban will lead to Ince's recall against Wycombe at the weekend is uncertain.
Walsall are anxious to give him enough time on the sidelines fto heal naturally.
Missing Saturday's match, plus themidweek Johnstone's Paint Trophy clash with Swansea, would give the 35-year-old a clear three weeks.
