Teachers FC was set up by Moreton School teacher Mr Spicer after two successful charity matches between staff from Moreton and Aldersley schools over the past two years.

The games proved popular with players and spectators, prompting him to develop the idea into a team open to anyone working in education, not just staff at Moreton.

The team aims to bring schools and the wider community together through football, while raising money for local causes and supporting staff wellbeing.

Its first official fixture will see Teachers FC take on YourRWTC, a team featuring television personalities, social media influencers and former professional sportspeople.

The match will raise money for the NHS charity supporting the Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.

It will take place at Wednesfield Football Club on Friday, November 6, with kick-off at 7.45pm.

Tickets cost £5 for adults and £2 for under-12s, with all ticket money and proceeds going to the charity.

Teachers FC is sponsored by local businesses and men's mental health charity Sport in Mind, which uses sport to improve people's wellbeing.

Organisers say the team offers an opportunity for teachers to enjoy exercise and spend time with colleagues outside the classroom, while also helping strengthen relationships with pupils, who get to see their teachers in a different setting.

Matches are open to students, parents, school staff and local residents.

The team hopes to expand the initiative by encouraging other schools, colleges and education settings to get involved.

A spokesman for Teachers FC said: "We want to create a movement from Moreton School through sport, engaging our local community and surrounding areas and bringing people together."

The team is also inviting businesses, organisations and other groups to arrange friendly fixtures against the teachers.

Anyone working in education who would like to play or help with the team can contact Mr Spicer at [email protected].
