Staffordshire WI members take to the green for bowls competitions
Members enjoyed a taster session, singles and doubles competitions and an inter-county match against Derbyshire at Marchington
Staffordshire Women's Institute members have been taking to the green as interest in crown green bowls continues to grow.

The Staffordshire Federation of Women's Institutes held a taster session before its singles and doubles competitions, followed by an inter-county match against Derbyshire.
The events were held at Marchington Tennis & Bowls Club in good weather.
The taster session gave members the chance to learn the basics from WI members of Caverswall & Cookshill WI and Woodland WI.

After a break for tea and cake, members took part in competitive doubles matches, with the session uncovering some unexpected talent.
The Federation's singles competition featured two round-robin groups, with matches played over 12 ends.
The final was played to 21, with Helen Cleaver of Woodlands WI beating Jean Parker of Aston by Stone WI.

The doubles final was closely fought, with Lynn Hubbard and Margaret Roberts of Caverswall & Cookshill WI beating Joyce Salmon and Helen Cleaver of Woodlands WI 21-20.
The inter-county match against Derbyshire featured four singles games. Both counties won two matches, with Derbyshire's victories coming 21-14 and 21-14, while Staffordshire won 21-18 and 21-3.
After refreshments, including a cream tea, the teams played two doubles matches. Derbyshire won one 21-19, while Staffordshire took the other 21-7.
Staffordshire finished with 110 points to Derbyshire's 91 to claim the overall victory. A rematch will take place in Derbyshire in 2027.

Mary Cooke, Arts & Sports Team lead for Staffordshire Federation of Women's Institutes, thanked those involved in organising the events and Marchington Tennis & Bowls Club for hosting them.
She said: “It is lovely to see so many WI members enjoying themselves in a sport that is increasing in popularity.”
She also praised the participants for taking part in a friendly and fun manner and bringing supporters who added to the atmosphere.
