Mattresses and bedframes dumped by warning sign at West Bromwich fly-tipping hotspot

The items were dumped near an anti-flytipping sign.

Multiple mattresses and bedframes are among items dumped at the side of a road which has become a hotspot for flytipping in West Bromwich.

Express & Star reporter Dan Hickey visited the site on Forge Lane today (November 4) after disgruntled residents reported seeing “dumbed mattresses, bed frames, settees, all types of stuff” in the area - branding it “disgusting.”

Photos taken on the road show the furniture items dumped along with empty wholesale boxes of crisps and drinks.

The mound of waste was also discarded near a sign that states “NO TIPPING MAXIMUM FINE £20,000”.

That same month, Sandwell Council launched a crackdown on flytippers in the area near Forge Lane and Park Lane.

The local authority said it would come with “enhanced enforcement activity and large-scale waste clearance to address a problematic fly-tipping locations and send a clear message that environmental crime will not be tolerated.”

It also claimed that the enforcement “led to a number of individuals being identified as part of ongoing investigations.”

Councillor Bob Jones, Sandwell Council's Cabinet Member for Environment and Enforcement added: "Fly-tipping is a blight on our communities and we will not stand for it in Sandwell.

"This operation is about much more than clearing waste. It is about gathering evidence, identifying offenders and taking enforcement action wherever possible.

"People should not think they can get away with fly-tipping in Sandwell. If your waste is found, you can expect us to investigate. Where there is evidence to support action, we will not hesitate to pursue it.

"We are investing in enforcement and working closely with partner organisations to make sure those responsible are held accountable for their actions. Our message to these criminals is simple: do not come to Sandwell."
