New book showcases storytelling talent from across Staffordshire
Writers of all ages have had their winning stories published in a new collection following a competition run by Stafford Library
Writers from across Staffordshire have celebrated seeing their short stories published in a new book after taking part in a competition organised by Stafford Library.

More than 50 people, including winners, family and friends, attended a special event at the library on October 17 to mark the launch of The Stafford Contemporary Collection.
The competition was launched earlier this year as part of the National Year of Reading celebrations, with six adult winners and six young writers recognised for their work.
Former Staffordshire Poet Laureate Mel Wardle Woodend presented awards to the adult winners, while Staffordshire Young Poet Laureate 2025/26 Pearl Knight Dutton presented copies of the book to the young writers.

The winning stories have been published by local publisher Dream Well and the collection is available to borrow from selected libraries across Stafford Borough.
Hayley Coles, acting leader and cabinet member for communities and culture at Staffordshire County Council, said: “This competition has showcased the incredible creativity and storytelling talent we have here in Staffordshire.
“It’s wonderful to see writers of all ages inspired to put pen to paper and share their imagination with others.
“Congratulations to all of our winners on this fantastic achievement and for earning a place in this special collection.”
