Redrow Midlands, which is building homes at Curborough Fields on Netherstowe Lane, presented the donation to staff at the hospital during a special cheque presentation.

The money will support Birmingham Women's Hospital Charity's £1.5 million MRI Appeal, which aims to bring a scanner to the hospital for the first time.

Based at the University Campus in Edgbaston, Birmingham Women's Hospital provides specialist care to more than 50,000 women and their families from across the UK each year.

Around 1,300 women and babies at the hospital need an MRI scan annually. However, without a scanner on site, patients have to travel to another hospital for their appointments.

Katie Harris, corporate partnerships manager at Birmingham Women's Hospital Charity, said the donation would help bring the appeal closer to its target.

She said: "Bringing an MRI to our hospital will help diagnose and treat patients across gynaecology, neonatal and fetal medicine, at a time when they need it most."

Joanne Watson, sales director at Redrow Midlands, said some of the company's employees had personally benefited from the hospital's services.

She said: "The cause is deeply personal to some of our employees, who have directly benefited from the hospital's services. We have seen first-hand the incredible care and support the hospital provides, and know the difference it makes to those who use its services."
