Author and illustrator Krista Joy will lead the sessions, which are aimed at children aged six to 11 and will use photographs and everyday objects to help inspire new story ideas.

The workshops will take place at Halesowen Library on Tuesday, August 11, from 10.30am to 11.30am, and at Cradley Library on Tuesday, August 25, from 11.30am to 12.30pm.

Krista said: “My workshops are centred around people, places and objects — a creative writing session that uses photographs and everyday objects to help children see the world around them, think creatively, and generate original story ideas.

“We explore character, setting and narrative in a fun session that dreams up ideas, builds characters and creates amazing stories. The focus is on enjoyment and building self-confidence.”

The sessions are being held as part of the National Year of Reading 2026, with library manager Sue Morgan-Salcombe praising Krista’s experience as a workshop leader and children’s author.

She said: “Krista is an experienced workshop leader who has written, illustrated and published four children’s books of her own.

“We’re delighted to be hosting her in August for what we know will be two very popular and inspiring events.”

The libraries are run by GLL on behalf of the council.

Places can be reserved by contacting Halesowen Library on 01384 812980 or Cradley Library on 01384 812885.
