From exploring the impressive Whitby Abbey in atmospheric winter weather to riding the North Yorkshire Moors Railway ‘Santa Express’ service, there’s plenty of ways for travellers to embrace the new season in Whitby.

York and Keswick round out the top three locations for a winter stay, with York known for its quaint Christmas markets and Keswick famous for its impressive scenery, which is all the more beautiful in the snow.

James Shaw, Chief Commercial Officer for Sykes Holiday Cottages, said: “We know from our research that some of the reasons Brits love a staycation is the ease of travel and affordability, but there’s so many more draws to a UK break, including getting to see what the country has to offer as the seasons change.

“With winter just around the corner, holidaymakers can embrace the dropping temperatures by taking in the sights which are right on their doorstep. Whether that’s meandering down quintessential cobbled streets, exploring Christmas markets, or toasting a glass of mulled wine, there’s endless ways to enjoy the season.

“And it’s no wonder that Whitby is so popular with travellers from Birmingham thanks to its rich attractions, cultural highlights, and stunning scenery.”
