Paul Warne disappointed MK Dons could not seal first league win of season

Chris Conn-Clarke’s cross-shot found the net five minutes from time after Aaron Collins’ opener.
Paul Warne was disappointed MK Dons could not hold on to their first win of the season after a 1-1 draw with Peterborough.
The Dons opened the scoring after 29 minutes when a cross from Callum Paterson was deflected on to the crossbar and Aaron Collins converted with a rebound which went in after hitting both posts.
However, Peterborough equalised in the 85th minute as substitute Chris Conn-Clarke’s cross managed to find its way into the back of the net to snatch a point.
The result continued both sides’ inconsistent starts, with MK Dons yet to win this season and Posh recording just one league win so far.
Warne was left disappointed as his team failed to see the game out.
He said: “Of all the draws we’ve had, this is the saddest. I think the lads are disappointed they didn’t see it through.
“Peterborough are a really good footballing side who’ve virtually outpassed everyone they’ve played so far, but I didn’t think our goal was under a lot of threat.
“That said, until you get a second goal, the opposition are always going to keep plugging away and we got done with a bit of a cross-shot.
“We had chances to get a second goal and didn’t, and the bit that upset me at times is that our basics weren’t very good, which is something we need to address to give ourselves a better chance to win a game. You can’t expect to score two or three every week to win.
“I expect us to have a little more energy come the end of the game as I just thought we looked a bit flat.”
Luke Williams felt his Peterborough side earned a draw, saying he felt a point apiece was fair.
“I think we deserved a point but it was a tough game and I don’t think either team really played at their best or created too many big chances,” he said.
“Over the whole game, I don’t think we can argue with a point.
“They allowed us the ball in our own half, pressed with Sam Nombe on his own and packed the rest of the pitch out.
“It was really difficult to play forward quickly when the opposition aren’t really pressing you and when you go too much, too high, too early, they go direct and are a huge threat.
“I wasn’t disappointed with the guys that started but felt we lost our way just before we conceded the goal. A few mistakes crept in. We’d been pretty comfortable before that.
“I think we suffered because we’ve conceded goals from errors too many times and it leaves a bad feeling. We have to shake that off.”
