'Clinical' - Wolves boss delight after team find cutting edge in Cardiff win

The boss was talking after Saturday’s win at Molineux.

Cesar Peixoto praised Wolves for finding their cutting edge after a trio of headers earned a 3-0 win over Cardiff.

Fer Lopez, Adam Armstrong and Ladislav Krejci were on the mark as Wolves record their biggest win since August and climb up to third in the Championship.

Lopez and Armstrong both netted inside the first 15 minutes to put the home side in command at Molineux.

Wolves had failed to score more than once in six of their previous seven matches and head coach Peixoto was delighted with the way they took their chances.

“I talked with the players before the game because in the last home game we created a lot of chances in the first half and didn’t score, so we wanted to be more clinical inside the box,” he said.

“We worked during the week on this and scored two goals in the first half and played very well.

“In the first five minutes of the second half, the game was more balanced but after that we changed a little thing with regard to high press and we scored the third goal.

“After that we tried to manage the game and manage the minutes of the players because we have another game in midweek.

“It was a very important win for us – three goals and another clean sheet.”

Peixoto had been booed by sections of the home crowd during the previous weekend’s win over Watford.

The atmosphere against Cardiff was noticeably more buoyant after his team grasped the initiative from the start.

Wolves now face away matches at Bristol City and Wrexham before the international break.

“It was important for the players and for the fans. They were happy with the game and the environment was amazing today,” said Peixoto.

“That’s what we want from our games to make our fans happy because we work for them.

“We have to stay humble because we don’t have a lot of time to celebrate before we go again.

“It was very good to finish these three home games with a big victory to keep our fans with us.

“I’m happy with that and happy because the players did an amazing job.”
