Hednesford Town new boy sets sights on third straight promotion

Former Wembley match-winner has big ambitions.

Jamie Cooke wants to help Hednesford Town win a third straight promotion after becoming the club’s first new signing of the summer.

The 24-year-old midfielder has joined the Pitmen after five years with Halifax Town, for whom he scored the winner in the 2023 FA Trophy final at Wembley.

Cooke has experience of playing in the National League Premier and now wants to return there with his new club, who are back playing at National League North level next season.

“Promotion, that’s the one thing we all want,” he said. “Since I spoke to the gaffer it has been what we have talked about, getting the club up and going for promotion again.”

Cooke continued: “I’m absolutely buzzing to sign. It is an amazing club and I’m really excited to get going.

“The club is going in one direction, and that is up. I want to be part of that, help the team push for promotion and ultimately get into the National League.

“The fan base here is massive. Seeing the support the players got in the play-offs was unbelievable, and playing in front of that support is something I’m really looking forward to.”

Pitmen boss Kelvin Davis said: “Jamie is someone we have kept our eye on for a couple of years now, so we’re really pleased to bring him to Hednesford.

“He is a talented player who can operate in a number of attacking positions, and he brings great energy to the team.

“Character is a massive part of our recruitment strategy, and Jamie’s keenness to play for Hednesford was key in our decision making. He wanted to be part of what we are building here, and that is exactly the type of attitude we want in the group.”

Kidderminster Harriers, who were promoted through the National League North play-offs last season, have confirmed defender Reece Hall will remain with them for next season after agreeing a new deal.

Halesowen Town, meanwhile, have sealed terms with Ryan Wollacott, Ty Barnett and Rob Evans to stay at the Grove.
