Wolves boss explains Kieran Trippier dilemma ahead of Bristol City trip

The former England star is viewed as a big player for Wolves this season.

Wolves boss Cesar Peixoto will speak to Kieran Trippier before deciding whether the right-back starts Wednesday’s match at Bristol City.

Peixoto is wary of pushing Trippier too hard after admitting he is unsure whether the 36-year-old is up to playing three matches in a week.

Trippier has endured a frustrating start to his time at Molineux, after suffering a knee injury in the opening match of the Championship season which saw him miss a month of action.

The former England international has started the last two matches since returning from a minor knock, captaining the team in both.

Peixoto views Trippier as a key player for his promotion push and so is minded to use caution, with Jackson Tchatchoua primed to replace him in the side if required.

Wolves head to Wrexham on Saturday and asked if Trippier was ready to play three matches in a week, Peixoto replied: “I have to see, I have to talk with him and see the way he recovers.

“But maybe not with his age, but we have to see.

“He is fit, training very, very well for his age and his status, he's the first guy to train and the first guy to do the exercise, to try to win in the training session, he's very competitive.

“But I have to see with Trippier and also with the doctors to see if it's possible or not but I have doubts about that.”

Midfielder Jordan James is a doubt for the trip to Ashton Gate after being forced off during the first half of Saturday’s 3-0 win over Cardiff.

Peixoto last week defended the club’s injury record this season, claiming it was simply down to bad luck and not his training methods.

Left-back Ghislain Konan recently became the fourth player to suffer a knee injury after Trippier, Raul Jimenez and Rafiki Said.
