“You should be cynical" - Matt Jackson out to prove himself at Wolves

Matt Jackson spoke to fans this week.

Technical director Matt Jackson says he understands cynicism among Wolves fans towards the hierarchy as they bid to prove themselves this summer.

Bridges have long been burnt between supporters and club owners Fosun after years of mismanagement and decline.

Jackson, chairman Nathan Shi and head coach Rob Edwards are all relatively new in their roles and are now seeking to rebuild trust with the fans.

Speaking at the fans’ forum, as supporters asked questions of the hierarchy, Jackson says they are right to be cynical and only correct decisions in a huge summer will prove they are the right people for the job.

“You're right, we have to prove ourselves to you,” Jackson said.

“You should be cynical, you should question us, we have to prove to you, there are no words I can give you here that are going to give you that confidence.

“What I can do is show you over the coming months, as part of this team, that we do have the same passion that you have.

“This club, it might surprise you, might just mean as much to us as it does to you because our family's lives depend on our success here.

“We care, it matters to us every single second of every single day when we try and do our best.

“I'm not going to give you words. I've got to give you actions, I absolutely understand that.”

Shi and Jackson were both vague on details when asked about Wolves’ finances and future.

However, the technical director did go a step further than the chairman as he insisted Wolves will be ‘competitive’ in the Championship.

He added: “It would be irresponsible of us to reveal exactly our financial position, but we know that the team getting relegated with parachute payments is competitive in the Championship and we will be competitive in the Championship for sure.

“We hate being there, it hurts us every day that we're experiencing relegation, but we have to be pragmatic about it and we absolutely will be challenging the best of them in the Championship.”
