Wolves complete second goalkeeper signing of the day
Joao Virginia joins John Ruddy through the door at Molineux.
Wolves have completed the signing of Sporting Lisbon goalkeeper Joao Virginia in a deal worth around £1.3million.
The 26-year-old former Everton shot-stopper will join as part of a goalkeeper department shake-up which has also seen John Ruddy return to Molineux on a free transfer this morning.
Ruddy, who has been without a club since leaving Newcastle at the end of last season, is coming in as the club’s third-choice keeper, replacing Dan Bentley following the latter’s switch to Coventry City last week.
As things stand, Josa Sa is expected to remain as No.1 for the season, with Sam Johnstone likely to leave before next Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
Despite being born and raised in Portugal, Virginia qualifies as a homegrown player having come through the ranks of Arsenal’s academy before joining Everton.
He made only eight appearances for the Toffees and had loan spells at Reading and Belgian club Cambuur before joining Sporting on a free transfer last summer.
