Patrick Weiser in talks over Wolves coaching job

Wolves are in talks with former Cologne assistant boss Patrick Weiser about becoming the club's new coach.

Weiser sat next to chief executive Jez Moxey in the Ewood Park director's box for Saturday's 1-0 win at Blackburn after holding talks with his old boss Stale Solbakken, who appointed him as assistant coach at Cologne last season.

The 40-year-old would replace the recently-departed Terry Connor and would be the second new backroom member of staff appointed by Solbakken after first-team coach Johan Lange.

And Weiser would have been impressed by Wolves as they made it three successive away wins without conceding, their fifth victory in six lifting them to third in the Championship.

Weiser worked with Solbakken from July 2011 to last April when the Norwegian was sacked.

Before that he was youth team coach for two years with the German club, where he also served as a defender or midfielder from 1991-97 and 2005-07.

After 110 appearances for Cologne, Weiser – whose 18-year-old son Mitchell, a right-winger, plays for Bayern Munich – spent two years with Rennes, where he played 39 times before returning to the Bundesliga with Vfl Wolsfburg, adding another 159 games before ending his career back at Cologne and moving into coaching.
