The 29-year-old Mexican has been recognised as the top performer by his team-mates after a goal-laden 2019/20 campaign.

He scored a whopping 27 goals in 55 appearances across all competitions, while also chipping in with 10 assists.

Jimenez – keen to focus on the team effort as he picked up the prize – said: “We all know that we achieved good things since we got promoted but we want more.

“We have to dream big and keep going. The ceiling is not the sky.

“You have to keep going, and keep going like this to achieve more.”

The final three for the award were Jimenez, skipper Conor Coady and midfield maestro Ruben Neves.

Coady – currently away with England for the first time – was full of praise for Jimenez, too, highlighting his immense work ethic.

“People watch the games and we all love the goals he scores, but for us as a team, what he gives us without the ball is incredible,” said Coady.

“He’s the first one to set up a press and bring our players up to try to win the ball back. It all comes from him.

“What he brings to the club in that respect as well is massive.”

Neves echoed those sentiments, as he added: “The way he works for the team, defensively, and the solutions he gives us to go out of pressure.

“His quality with the ball. He’s a fantastic player. There are not many strikers like him.”

Wolves are holding their end of season awards online this year while unable to hold a proper event because of Covid-19.

They began on Tuesday and three awards are being given out each day until Saturday, ending with the prestigious supporters’ player of the season gong.

Among the awards given out so far, Pedro Neto was voted young professional, Adama Traore received the player in the community prize and Neves won goal of the season for his cracker against Espanyol in the Europa League.

Meanwhile, Wolves are signing Portuguese defender Toti Gomes and loaning him straight out to Grasshoppers Zurich.

The 21-year-old has been snapped up from Estoril and is heading out to Switzerland to continue his development.

A statement from Estoril read: “Estoril informs that it has reached an agreement with Wolverhampton Wanderers to assign the sporting rights of athlete Toti Gomes. Estoril wishes the player the greatest personal and professional successes.”

Gomes is due to go to Grasshoppers amid growing links between them and Wolves.

They were bought earlier this year by a Hong Kong-firm owned by Jenny Wang, who is the wife of Fosun owner Guo Guangchang.

Conor Ronan and Renat Dadashov recently joined them on loan, while Ming-yang Yang joined them upon his Molineux release earlier this summer.

Former Wolves board member Sky Sun is Grasshoppers president, too.
