Wolves' Leander Dendoncker: It's been worth the wait

Leander Dendoncker says games like the 4-3 win over Leicester make his wait for first-team football at Molineux worthwhile.

The Belgium international didn't make his first Premier League debut until December 29, having only appeared once off the bench before then.

But now the 23-year-old has started three matches in a row – and looks at home in Wolves' midfield.

"It makes the wait worthwhile," he said. "We have great support at home, we have to try and win every home game with the support of the amazing fans. They push us forward.

"We have to keep working and take it game by game (although) hopefully a little less drama next time! We have to try and manage the game better, especially when you lead 2-0.

"We created a lot of chances, that's positive. We have to see how we can defend better."

Dendoncker is likely to be in the squad for Saturday's FA Cup fourth round tie away at Shrewsbury Town, although boss Nuno Espirito Santo is expected to mix up his starting XI against the League One opponents.

Like his captain Conor Coady, Dendoncker wants to see Wolves defend better, after they conceded three times against the Foxes last weekend.

"I think there was maybe a lack of concentration," Dendoncker said of Leicester's quickfire two goals.

"It was a great game for the fans of both teams, especially for our fans because we took the three points. A game with a lot of emotions.

"We started really well, scored two goals quite soon, then they had a couple of chances but we defended well.

"At the end of the first half we could have scored a third, then the second half we didn't start well, they scored two and we had to start from zero.

"Fortunately Diogo (Jota) was there to save us.

"It was a game with a lot of intensity, a lot of duels, a lot of running, attacking, defending.

"That's also why there was seven goals. We have to see what we can do better to avoid the goals they scored against us. Three is too much.

"We have to work on that and try to keep improving."
