Ludovic Pollet is back at Wolves to learn

No-nonsense defender and cult hero Ludovic Pollet returned to Wolves to pick up some coaching tips as he looks to launch a career in England.

Frenchman Pollet was hugely popular in his time at Molineux from 1999 to 2003.

Rarely seen without a bandage of some sort, Pollet was renowned for never shirking a challenge, even if it left him with scars that he still bears today.

Tough and talented - Ludovic Pollet in his playing hey-day for Wolves.

Pollet, who briefly featured for Walsall during a loan spell, had a meeting with Wolves head of football development and recruitment Kevin Thelwell to garner some ideas.

Pollet said: "I have been coaching in France for the last six years, but my ambition now is to work in England.

"I played at Wolves and enjoyed my time here so just came to have a look and get some advice about the future.

"For the last three years I have been coaching at a club near Bordeaux called Tarbes who are in the fourth division.

"That was a great experience but now I want a new challenge and to try to be involved in English football."

Pollet played 86 times for Wolves after being signed by Colin Lee from French side Le Harve and was named as Player of the Season in his first year in England.

He fell out of favour under Dave Jones and left after Wolves won promotion in 2003, with his last appearance being off the bench in the play-off semi-final 2-1 home win over Reading.

He left with some great memories of Wolves, as fans did of him, none more special than a goal against Albion in a 3-1 Molineux win in 2001.

He said: "It was four good years for me at Wolves. Playing for Wolves was a great experience for me.

"I know how much the Wolves fans enjoy their football and I really enjoyed playing for them. They eat football and drink football, they love it.

"I had played at the top football in France for eight years and came over to the Championship and it was fantastic with crowds of 25,000 at Molineux.

"Yes I still have a few scars but that was the way I played – I would always give everything and not cheat anybody on the pitch.

"Sometimes it went well and sometimes it didn't and I got a few whacks in the face."

Pollet still keeps an eye on Wolves' results and is in touch with former team-mates Mo Camara and Neil Emblen.

He added: "The facilities here are very different to when I was a player. It shows that the club wants to be at the top and for the players and the staff it will be a great facility to work in.

"I think there is that gap between the Premier League and Championship and sometimes it is down to the money involved.

"I think Wolves are going in the right direction and will be able to get back there."
